AsianFin -- OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that artificial general intelligence (AGI) — often described as “superintelligent AI” — is expected to emerge before 2030, with machines becoming “far smarter than humans” in many respects.
Altman cautioned against viewing AI’s rise from a purely negative perspective, pointing out that many jobs which existed 30 years ago are gone today even without modern AI.
One of Altman’s key claims is that in the near future 30-40% of the tasks currently done by humans in the economy could be automated by AI. He emphasized that this refers to tasks, not necessarily entire jobs being eliminated overnight.
Altman also addressed concerns about how AGI might treat humans. He rejected dystopian comparisons that liken humanity to ants in relation to superintelligence, instead hoping that AGI, if built with proper values, would treat humans “like a loving parent.”
