AsianFin – Walmart, the largest private employer in the United States, is preparing for major workforce changes as artificial intelligence reshapes the labor landscape. Company executives have signaled that AI technology will eliminate certain roles while fundamentally transforming the composition of its employee base.
This week, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon offered one of the clearest assessments yet from a major corporate leader on AI’s impact on employment. He stated:
"AI will change every job—it’s very clear. Maybe there are jobs in the world that AI won’t touch, but I can’t think of any."
In response, Walmart plans to maintain its global workforce of roughly 2.1 million employees over the next three years. Chief People Officer Donna Morris emphasized that while total headcount will remain steady, the mix of roles within the company is expected to undergo significant changes.
