AsianFin -- Shanghai has officially become home to the international operation center for the digital yuan, established and managed by the Digital Currency Institute of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC).
The center, which opened yesterday, offers innovative solutions for cross-border payments and includes an e-yuan cross-border digital payment platform, a blockchain services platform, and a digital asset platform.
PBOC Governor Pan Gongsheng first announced plans for the international operation center at the 2025 Lujiazui Forum in Shanghai in June.
According to the PBOC, the e-yuan cross-border digital payment platform will explore the use of legal digital currency to tackle challenges in traditional cross-border payments. The blockchain services platform will provide standardized cross-chain transaction information and on-chain e-yuan payment services across different scenarios and industry blockchains.
