AsianFin -- China’s domestically developed BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) is expected to be embedded in more than 400 million new terminals and devices nationwide by the end of 2028, according to an official industry report cited by People’s Financial News on Wednesday.
The forecast, highlighted at the achievement announcement session of the 4th International Summit on BDS Applications, underscores the system’s growing role in boosting China’s independent navigation capabilities and safeguarding industrial technology security, industry insiders said.
The report noted that China’s satellite navigation and location-based services sector, led by BDS, generated an output value of 575.8 billion yuan ($79.2 billion) in 2024.
According to the Blue Book on BDS Industry Development (2025) released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, BDS applications will continue to expand rapidly, forming a market with hundreds of millions of users in the coming years.
