AsianFin -- Shanghai has overtaken Beijing to claim the top spot among China’s 31 provincial-level regions for science and technology innovation, according to a new report by a think tank under the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The report, released by the Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development at the Pujiang Innovation Forum yesterday, ranked Shanghai first in overall sci-tech innovation, followed by Beijing, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Tianjin.
The evaluation assessed regions across five dimensions: innovation environment, innovation input, innovation output, high-tech industrialization, and contributions to social and economic development.
Shanghai led in labor productivity, economic openness, and technology exports, while Beijing excelled in innovation environment and R&D intensity.
