Trump Says AI 'Taking Over the World' During UK Tech Summit

Sep 18, 2025, 11:43 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that artificial intelligence is “taking over the world” and expressed hope that tech leaders know what they’re doing—because he doesn’t.

Trump made the remarks while hosting business and tech executives, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his second state visit to the U.K.

Departing from the scripted celebration of U.S.-U.K. ties and new investment projects, Trump acknowledged his limited knowledge of AI. Addressing Huang, he said: “This will create new government, academic and private sector cooperation in areas such as AI, which is taking over the world… I’m looking at you guys. You’re taking over the world. Jensen, I don’t know what you’re doing here.” The comments drew laughter from Starmer and the audience.

The two leaders then signed a Tech Prosperity Deal focused on joint AI development for healthcare, expanding quantum computing, and streamlining civil nuclear projects. As part of the deal, Nvidia will deploy 120,000 graphics processing units across the U.K., its largest rollout in Europe to date.

Before signing, Trump jokingly asked U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for reassurance: “Are you sure, Scott? If the deal’s no good, I’m blaming you, Scott.”
