AsianFin -- Chinese flying car developer XPENG AEROHT confirmed on Tuesday that two of its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft made contact during a rehearsal flight at the Changchun Air Show in Northeast China’s Jilin Province, with one vehicle catching fire upon landing.

According to a company statement provided to the Global Times, the incident occurred in the afternoon following a flying demonstration by Guangdong XPENG AEROHT General Aviation. The two aircraft were practicing a formation flight when insufficient spacing resulted in mid-air contact. One aircraft landed safely, while the other sustained fuselage damage and ignited upon touchdown.

XPENG AEROHT emphasized that all personnel at the scene were unharmed and that relevant authorities managed the situation in an orderly manner. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
