AsianFin -- China on Monday unveiled the 2.0 edition of its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety Governance Framework, marking a significant step in the country’s efforts to manage AI-related risks while promoting the sector’s stable development. The announcement was made through an article posted on the official social media account of the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC).

Building on the original framework released on September 9, 2024, the 2.0 edition incorporates the latest advancements and practical applications of AI technology. According to the CAC, the updated framework continuously monitors emerging risks, refines and optimizes risk categories, explores risk grading strategies, and dynamically updates prevention and governance measures to better address potential hazards.

The release reflects China’s intent to align with global AI development trends by integrating technological innovation with governance practices. It emphasizes consensus on AI security, ethics, and regulatory standards, aiming to foster a safe, trustworthy, and controllable AI ecosystem. Additionally, the framework seeks to establish a collaborative governance system that spans borders, industries, and sectors, according to CAC officials.

By updating the framework, China signals its commitment to ensuring that rapid AI development occurs within a robust regulatory structure, balancing innovation with safety and public trust.
