AsianFin -- China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has launched an additional investigation into Nvidia, citing suspected violations of the country’s Anti-Monopoly Law.
According to an initial review, Nvidia allegedly breached conditions set out in the regulator’s earlier approval of its acquisition of Mellanox Technologies Ltd. SAMR had cleared the deal with restrictions under its antitrust review, but now says the company failed to fully comply.
The watchdog announced that it will “conduct further investigation in accordance with the law” to determine the extent of the violations and possible enforcement measures.
Nvidia acquired Israel-based Mellanox in 2020 in a deal valued at $6.9 billion, a move aimed at strengthening its data center and networking business. The transaction was subject to multiple international antitrust reviews, including conditional approval from Chinese regulators, given Mellanox’s significant role in high-performance computing and networking.
