Alibaba’s Amap Launches AI-Powered Review Feature to Rival Meituan

AsianFin -- Alibaba Group Holding has rolled out a major update to its navigation platform Amap, adding an artificial intelligence-driven review system that allows users to rate local businesses—a move that directly challenges Meituan’s popular Dianping app.

The new feature, called Amap Street Stars, lets users review restaurants, hotels, tourist attractions, and other services. To boost adoption, Alibaba said it will provide more than CNY1 billion (USD140 million) in incentives, targeting 10 million customers with discounts on car rides, dining, and leisure spending.

Alibaba began quietly developing the project in June and has since built out coverage of more than 1.6 million offline service providers across 300 cities in China. That includes about 870,000 restaurants, 230,000 hotels, and nearly 50,000 scenic spots, the company said on Wednesday.
