AsianFin -- China’s industry ministry said on Wednesday it will roll out a three-month campaign to combat false marketing and online misconduct in the automotive sector, as authorities tighten oversight of the world’s largest car market.
The initiative follows new regulations introduced in May aimed at cooling an extended price war that has weighed heavily on automakers, suppliers, and dealers.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), regulators will target the dissemination of negative information about automakers when such activity is carried out for profit. The campaign will also focus on curbing fake and misleading online marketing, as well as the use of organized troll networks to smear competitors.
Automakers and online platforms — which the ministry did not name — will be required to implement corrective measures to address irregular practices, the statement said.
