AsianFin -- Chinese luxury automaker Hongqi, known as Red Flag, announced on Tuesday plans to expand aggressively in Europe with the launch of 15 electric and hybrid vehicles across 25 markets by 2028. The company also unveiled the EHS5, a compact electric SUV designed to appeal to younger buyers.

Hongqi, a unit of the state-owned automaker FAW Group, already operates in European countries including Norway, the Netherlands, and Poland. The company said it intends to establish a network of more than 200 dealers in Europe by 2028, signaling a serious push into the continent’s competitive EV landscape.

Speaking at the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich, FAW’s design chief Giles Taylor said the EHS5 delivers a range of 550 kilometers (342 miles) on a single charge and can recharge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. Taylor described the SUV as “more dynamic and a bit more youthful” compared with the EHS9, Hongqi’s current full-size EV in Europe, highlighting the company’s strategy to attract a broader demographic of luxury car buyers.
