AsianFin -- PayPal will allow users to make payments through WeChat Pay using QR codes starting in the fourth quarter of this year, company officials confirmed. Su Lei, head of sales at PayPal China, and Tony Yu, senior manager and head of the technical integration partner team for China, announced the plan, which aims to expand digital payment options for PayPal users in the country.
The move comes as global payment providers increasingly seek partnerships with China’s dominant mobile wallets, tapping into the country’s vast digital payments ecosystem dominated by WeChat Pay and Alipay. By integrating with WeChat Pay, PayPal hopes to simplify cross-platform transactions for both local and international consumers, strengthening its footprint in the world’s largest e-commerce market.
