Tianjin Halts Car Trade-In Subsidy Program After Funds Run Out

Sep 07, 2025, 10:26 p.m. ET

AsianFin — The northern Chinese city of Tianjin has suspended its automobile trade-in subsidy program after allocated funds were fully used, local authorities announced on Friday.

According to the Implementation Rules for the 2025 Tianjin Automobile Trade-In Subsidy Program, the initiative operates under a “total funding control” mechanism. As of September 6, all available subsidy funds had been exhausted.

Starting at midnight on September 8, the city will stop accepting new applications for the program. However, consumers who purchased new cars on or before September 7 — based on the invoice date — and complete both new car registration and old car transfer procedures by September 15 will still be eligible for subsidies under the previous rules.

The online application portal on the “Tianjin Consumer Goods Trade-In Subsidy Platform” will close at midnight on September 7 and reopen at 10 a.m. on September 16. From that date, the system will only process applications that meet the adjusted policy requirements or allow corrections to existing submissions.

Officials said that any further adjustments to Tianjin’s automobile trade-in subsidy policy will be announced through official channels.
