AsianFin -- SAIC-GM, the joint venture between China’s SAIC Motor and the U.S. automaker General Motors, announced a promotional discount of CNY 10,000 (approximately USD 1,400) for buyers of its flagship SUV, the Buick Envision Plus, for purchases made this month.
The full price of the Envision Plus is CNY 169,900 (USD 23,800). With the CNY 10,000 discount and a national subsidy of CNY 15,000, customers purchasing by September 30 can acquire the vehicle for just CNY 144,900.
SAIC-GM has been employing a fixed pricing strategy since August last year, which has helped stabilize the market and contributed to a rebound in Buick Envision sales, alongside a broader recovery across other models in the joint venture’s lineup. However, it remains unclear whether the new Envision Plus discount will significantly boost consumer demand.
Last month, SAIC-GM reported sales of 44,000 vehicles, a 177% increase from the same month last year, according to figures released by SAIC. For the first eight months of 2025, the joint venture’s total sales rose 29% year-on-year to 330,000 units, reflecting a solid recovery trend since May.
The discount offer on the Envision Plus comes as SAIC-GM seeks to maintain momentum in China’s highly competitive SUV market, where pricing strategies and consumer incentives remain key tools to attract buyers amid fluctuating demand.
