Huawei Unveils AI-Focused SSDs to Tackle Storage Bottlenecks

Aug 27, 2025, 10:54 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- Huawei on Wednesday launched a new lineup of AI solid-state disk (SSD) products in Shanghai, targeting the performance and capacity constraints of traditional storage systems. The company said the release is designed to boost AI training efficiency and improve the inference experience, while setting a new industry benchmark in AI storage.

At the launch event, Zhou Yuefeng, vice president and head of Huawei’s data storage product line, introduced the Huawei OceanDisk EX, SP, and LC series, according to a post on the firm’s Weibo account.

As AI adoption accelerates, data sets are expanding rapidly from “pure text” to multimodal corpora, and inference workloads are shifting from “short sequences” to multimodal fusion long sequences — trends that place mounting pressure on storage systems, Huawei noted.

“The increasingly severe ‘memory wall’ and ‘capacity wall’ have become key bottlenecks to AI training efficiency and user experience,” Zhou said. “This presents major challenges to IT infrastructure performance and costs, disrupting the positive cycle of AI business development.”
