AsianFin -- TikTok may get more time to operate in the U.S., President Trump suggested Friday, indicating that enforcement of a law requiring the Chinese-owned platform to sell its U.S. assets could be extended.
Trump told reporters that the implementation of the 2024 law, which mandates ByteDance to divest TikTok to a U.S. owner or one governed by U.S. ally laws, “may extend a little bit longer.” The law, signed by former President Joe Biden in April 2024, was originally set to take effect in January.
The popular short-video app, which has more than 170 million U.S. users, has faced growing pressure over national security concerns, with regulators pushing for a divestment over the past 18 months.
