AsianFin -- Tencent Holdings Ltd. made a strong splash in China’s mobile gaming market this week, with its mobile version of Valorant generating $1 million in gross player spending on iPhones on its debut day.
Originally launched on PC in 2020, the colorful tactical shooter is one of Tencent’s major mobile releases this year, closely watched as a barometer for the company’s strategy to sustain its “evergreen” gaming franchises.
On its first day, Valorant racked up roughly 170,000 downloads—comparable to Tencent’s previous high-profile mobile launch a year ago—and currently ranks No. 1 in iPhone app downloads in China, according to Appfigures data.
