AsianFin -- Elon Musk must face a lawsuit accusing him of misleading voters with a $1 million sweepstakes tied to a petition drive ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
A federal judge in Austin, Texas, ruled Wednesday that an Arizona woman may proceed with claims she was deceived into signing Musk’s America PAC petition and providing personal data after believing winners would be chosen at random. Instead, participants were allegedly handpicked to serve as spokespeople for Musk’s pro-Donald Trump political action committee.
U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman said the plaintiff, Jacqueline McAferty, had plausibly alleged she didn’t receive “what she bargained for — a random chance to win $1 million,” though he did not weigh in on the merits of the proposed class action.
