AsianFin -- The U.S. Department of Commerce announced Tuesday that 407 additional product categories will now be subject to a 50% duty on their steel and aluminum content, a move that Chinese experts warn will burden American businesses and destabilize global supply chains.
The expanded list includes wind turbines and related components, mobile cranes, bulldozers, railcars, furniture, compressors, pumps, and hundreds of other products, according to the department’s statement.
Jeffrey Kessler, Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security, said the decision aims to curb tariff circumvention while supporting “the continued revitalization of the American steel and aluminum industries.”
The DOC also extended tariffs to imported parts for automotive exhaust systems, electrical steel used in electric vehicles, as well as components for buses, air conditioners, and home appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, and dryers, Reuters reported.
