Arm Taps Amazon AI Chip Leader to Advance In-House Chip Development

AsianFin -- Arm Holdings has recruited Rami Sinno, Amazon’s director of AI chips, to accelerate its push into building its own processors, Reuters reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.

Sinno played a key role in developing Amazon’s custom AI chips, Trainium and Inferentia, which are used to train and run large-scale AI applications.

Arm has historically focused on designing processor architecture and instruction sets that licensees such as Apple and Nvidia use in their chips, rather than manufacturing its own. But in July, the company announced plans to allocate part of its profit to developing chiplets—specialized modules that can be combined into full systems—and potentially complete chips.
