AsianFin -- U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order aimed at fostering a competitive commercial space industry and ensuring America maintains its leadership in the sector.

According to a statement published on the White House website, the executive order directs the elimination or acceleration of environmental reviews required for spacecraft launches and atmospheric reentries. It also calls for a review of existing regulatory requirements, with the goal of revising or repealing rules that are no longer applicable to commercial space activities.

The order instructs the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of Transportation, and the NASA Administrator to coordinate their respective review processes to avoid regulatory duplication and to accelerate the development of next-generation spaceport infrastructure.

In addition, the executive order mandates the establishment of a streamlined approval system for emerging space activities, strengthening the United States’ competitive edge and capabilities in the rapidly evolving space industry.
