AsianFin -- China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Tuesday that it has started an anti-dumping investigation into pea starch imported from Canada. The investigation will examine imports from January 1 to December 31, 2024, to determine if dumping occurred. Additionally, the ministry will look at the impact on China's domestic industry from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2024.
According to a ministry spokesperson, this action is a legitimate trade measure allowed under World Trade Organization (WTO) rules to protect domestic industries. The spokesperson stated that this investigation is fundamentally different from what they called the recent "discriminatory measures" taken by Canada against China, which they claim violate WTO rules.
