AsianFin -- Dr. Zhang Qifeng from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University is developing the world’s first “gestation robot,” sparking widespread interest.
Unlike traditional methods such as IVF or surrogacy, this system not only replicates the uterine environment but is also integrated into a humanoid robotic body, allowing the “robot mother” to mimic the entire pregnancy and childbirth process, providing a full human-like experience.
Zhang explained that the project aims to meet the needs of modern young people who want children but prefer not to undergo pregnancy themselves.
Currently, the technology builds on existing artificial womb systems combined with the robot’s abdomen. The prototype is expected to be launched within a year, with a price tag not exceeding 100,000 yuan (approximately $10,000).
