AsianFin -- A social media account tied to China’s state broadcaster CCTV has raised security concerns over Nvidia’s H20 chips, saying they could pose backdoor access risks. The comments came after Beijing voiced similar concerns.
In a WeChat post, the account Yuyuan Tantian also criticized the H20 chips as lacking technological advancement and environmental sustainability. “When a type of chip is neither environmentally friendly, nor advanced, nor safe, as consumers, we certainly have the option not to buy it,” the article stated.
The H20 artificial intelligence chips were designed specifically for the Chinese market after Washington imposed export restrictions on high-end AI chips in late 2023. The Trump administration banned their sales to China in April amid escalating trade tensions but reversed the decision in July.
