AsianFin -- U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday aimed at making it easier for certain alternative assets — including private equity — to be added to 401(k) retirement accounts, according to White House officials. Private equity had previously been limited to sophisticated investors.
The move has drawn concern from some investment experts, who argue 401(k)s should remain simple and relatively low-risk. Private equity holdings are typically concentrated in a few companies, less liquid than stocks and bonds, and subject to valuations that can be harder to gauge on a daily basis.
