AsianFin -- Synchron has released the first public demonstration of an iPad being controlled entirely by thought, marking a milestone in brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. The breakthrough leverages Apple’s new BCI Human Interface Device (HID) protocol and built-in accessibility features.
The video showcases Mark, a participant in Synchron’s COMMAND clinical trial and a person living with ALS, using the company’s implantable BCI to navigate the iPad home screen, launch apps, and compose text — all without using his hands, voice, or eyes.
The demonstration follows Apple’s May announcement of its new BCI HID protocol, which allows brain signals to function as a native input method across its operating systems for the first time.
