Microsoft in Advanced Talks to Secure Long-Term Access to OpenAI Technology

AsianFin — Microsoft is in advanced negotiations with OpenAI to establish a new agreement that would ensure continued access to the company’s cutting-edge AI technologies, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The talks center around updating the terms of Microsoft’s rights to use OpenAI’s latest models and innovations, even if OpenAI declares it has reached artificial general intelligence (AGI)—a milestone that, under the existing contract, could limit Microsoft’s access to key technologies.

Negotiators from both companies have been meeting regularly, and a deal could be finalized within weeks, the sources said. The discussions follow a meeting earlier this month between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at the annual Allen & Co. conference in Sun Valley, Idaho.
