Russia Halts Gasoline Exports to Ensure Domestic Supply

Jul 28, 2025, 11:34 p.m. ET

AsianFin — The Russian government on Monday announced a full suspension of gasoline exports, effective immediately through the end of August, to address rising domestic demand.

The move follows a series of disruptions, including Ukrainian drone attacks and Western sanctions, which have thrown off scheduled maintenance at refineries and caused temporary imbalances in domestic fuel supply and demand.

“This decision is aimed at maintaining stability in the domestic fuel market during the peak of seasonal demand and agricultural activity,” the Russian government said in a statement.

Despite the export ban, the impact on global refined oil markets is expected to be limited. Russia exports around 100,000 barrels of gasoline per day—less than 2% of the global seaborne fuel trade, according to data.
