Pop Mart’s Wang Ning Says Hollywood Studios Eyeing LABUBU Film, Global Demand Outpaces Supply

Jul 24, 2025, 2:47 a.m. ET

AsianFin -- Pop Mart founder and CEO Wang Ning revealed that several well-known film studios — including those in Hollywood — have expressed interest in making a movie centered on LABUBU, the company’s breakout designer toy IP. Discussions are ongoing, and Pop Mart is still weighing whether to produce the film independently or collaborate with Hollywood, as well as what format the project should take.

“LABUBU has exploded into a world-class IP. Demand has far outstripped supply,” Wang said at a recent event. He noted that the company is working hard to optimize its supply chain and has delayed many LABUBU product launches to avoid releasing new items while production capacity remains limited.

Wang emphasized that Pop Mart does not want to see its products excessively speculated on in the secondary market. “We’re doing everything we can to make sure real users can get their hands on them,” he added.

Wang also disclosed that Pop Mart’s overseas revenue reached 5.07 billion yuan in 2024. This year, international sales are expected to surpass domestic sales, with North America likely overtaking Southeast Asia as the company’s top overseas market.
