U.S. Lawmakers Subpoena JPMorgan, Bank of America Over CATL IPO Involvement

Jul 23, 2025, 10:37 p.m. ET

AsianFin -- JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Bank of America Corp. have been subpoenaed by U.S. lawmakers over their roles in the initial public offering of Chinese battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL).

The subpoenas were issued by the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, which on Wednesday posted its formal request for documents on X. The Wall Street Journal first reported the development earlier in the day.

“We’ve had constructive engagement with the committee and will continue to engage,” a Bank of America spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

JPMorgan declined to comment. However, in a Bloomberg Television interview in May, CEO Jamie Dimon said CATL had not been sanctioned by the U.S. government and emphasized that banks conduct extensive due diligence before underwriting such deals. “If we thought it was wrong, we wouldn’t do it,” Dimon said.
