Trump Says U.S. and Japan to Launch LNG Joint Venture in Alaska

Jul 23, 2025, 3:52 a.m. ET

AsianFin -- U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Japan plans to establish a joint venture with the United States to develop a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Alaska. However, a Japanese government official told reporters they were not aware of any such agreement.

It remains unclear whether Trump was referring to the long-discussed $44 billion Alaska LNG project, which envisions an 800-mile (1,300-km) pipeline transporting natural gas to a planned liquefaction and export facility.
