AsianFin -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed confidence that Washington and Tokyo can reach a "good agreement" on tariffs, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said Friday following a meeting with Bessent in Tokyo.

While specific details, including the 25% tariff threatened by former President Donald Trump starting in August, were not discussed, Ishiba said he urged Bessent to maintain “active dialogue” with Japan’s chief tariff negotiator, Ryosei Akazawa.
