AsianFin -- Meta has hired two prominent artificial intelligence experts from Apple, just weeks after luring away their former boss—marking the latest escalation in Silicon Valley’s AI talent war.
Mark Lee and Tom Gunter, both veterans of Apple’s AI efforts, are joining Meta’s Superintelligence Labs team, according to people familiar with the matter. Lee has already started at Meta, while Gunter is expected to come on board in the near future. The hires have not yet been publicly announced.
The moves underscore Meta’s aggressive push to dominate the next wave of AI innovation. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made artificial intelligence the company’s highest strategic priority, significantly ramping up investments in talent and infrastructure to compete with powerhouses like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. As Big Tech doubles down on generative AI, the race for elite researchers is intensifying—and Meta is betting that poaching from rivals like Apple will give it a critical edge.
