AsianFin -- JD.com is ramping up its efforts in China’s increasingly competitive food delivery market, pledging $275 million to upgrade benefits and provide 150,000 electric scooters to eligible full-time delivery riders.

According to an internal company post on Tuesday, JD Food Delivery had more than 150,000 full-time couriers as of the end of the second quarter. To support this growing workforce, the company will begin distributing the sleek "Chijia Guangren X1" e-bike, alongside expanded benefits including housing fund contributions, insurance coverage, and seasonal subsidies during both summer and winter months.

To qualify for the e-bike subsidy, riders must purchase the vehicle through their local station managers and complete at least 3,000 deliveries within 90 days. Upon meeting the target, JD will reimburse the full purchase cost. The first rollout began in Beijing, Changsha, and Nanjing, with a nationwide expansion planned.

The move underscores JD.com’s aggressive push to gain ground against dominant players Meituan and Ele.me by offering more attractive rider incentives and better equipment as it scales up its logistics capabilities in China’s hyper-competitive on-demand economy.
