AsianFin -- Vietnam is preparing to impose tougher penalties on trade fraud and illegal transshipments, with a particular focus on Chinese-origin goods, as part of its efforts to meet commitments made to the United States, according to government documents reviewed by Reuters.
The move comes after the Southeast Asian country reached a preliminary agreement with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump last week. Under the deal, Washington agreed to reduce proposed tariffs on Vietnamese imports to 20%, down from the 46% rate that had been threatened in April.
