AsianFin -- Xpeng Motors is ramping up its AI ambitions with annual investments approaching 5 billion yuan ($690 million), Chairman He Xiaopeng revealed at a public event on July 9.
He said the company has deployed nearly 20,000 AI chips this year to train large models for autonomous driving, underscoring its aggressive push into next-generation intelligent mobility. “We are working on what we call a Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model, using massive datasets to train how cars drive,” He noted.
He added that the company’s new L3 autonomous driving software, built on the VLA model, is expected to outperform industry peers by a factor of 10 to 20 in capability, and will be ready for public rollout by the end of this year or early 2026.
“We believe the physical world’s AI still holds enormous upward potential,” He said, positioning Xpeng at the forefront of the next wave in autonomous and AI-powered mobility.
