AsianFin -- U.S. immigration enforcement is set to undergo its most aggressive expansion in decades after Congress approved a sweeping budget bill that will pour over $150 billion into President Donald Trump’s deportation and border security plans.
The legislation, backed by the Republican-controlled Congress and expected to be signed by Trump by Friday, earmarks the majority of funds for the Department of Homeland Security and its key enforcement agencies—Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The funding, on top of the agencies’ existing budgets, marks an unprecedented escalation that will fast-track the construction of new detention facilities, the hiring of thousands of immigration officers, and the expansion of the southern border wall.
