AsianFin -- SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son announced on Friday that the company aims to become the world’s leading platform provider for “artificial super intelligence” (ASI) within the next 10 years.
“We want to be the organizer of the industry in the artificial super intelligence era,” Son told investors at SoftBank’s annual shareholder meeting, positioning the company to play a central role in what he views as the next major technological revolution.
Son compared his ambition to the dominance of current tech giants like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google, which have benefited from the “winner-takes-all” nature of digital platform businesses. He has previously defined ASI as technology that surpasses human intelligence by a factor of 10,000.
The remarks come as SoftBank returns to bold, high-stakes investing—an approach that built Son’s reputation through early successes like Alibaba, but also led to high-profile missteps, including the collapse of WeWork.
