AsianFin -- Tesla’s first grid-side energy storage project in mainland China is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of this year, according to Dong Kun, General Manager of Tesla China’s Energy Business.
The Phase I project will have a storage capacity of 300 megawatt-hours (MWh). Tesla announced last week that the demonstration project will be developed by Kangao Energy—an affiliate of China Confre Group—in the Lingang New Area of Shanghai, with a total planned investment of RMB 4 billion (approximately $550 million).
The facility will use Tesla’s Megapack battery storage system and is designed as an independent grid-side energy storage station. Once fully completed, the project is expected to reach gigawatt-hour (GWh) scale, marking a major step in Tesla’s efforts to expand its energy business footprint in China.
