Disney Cuts More Jobs in Product and Tech as It Reshapes Streaming Strategy

AsianFin -- Disney has conducted a second round of layoffs this month, this time affecting its product and technology division, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The latest cuts fall under Adam Smith, who oversees product and technology for Disney’s entertainment and sports media businesses. Fewer than 2% of the unit’s staff were impacted, the person said, noting that the layoffs are part of a broader effort to realign resources.

Despite the cuts, Disney is continuing to hire in select areas within product and technology, the person added.

Smith, who joined Disney from YouTube last year, is leading efforts to strengthen the tech backbone of Disney+ and Hulu, while also spearheading the development of ESPN’s much-anticipated standalone streaming platform, expected to launch later this year.
