Apple Joins China’s Trade-In Subsidy Program for the First Time via Official Channels

Jun 24, 2025, 2:39 a.m. ET

AsianFin -- Apple on Tuesday announced on its official China website that select products are now eligible for government subsidies of up to 2,000 yuan (approximately $275). The offer is available exclusively through Apple’s online store for deliveries to Beijing and its retail stores in Shanghai.

The promotional image on Apple’s site features a range of eligible devices, including smartwatches, smartphones, tablets, and monitors. This marks the first time Apple has participated in China’s official trade-in subsidy program—known locally as the “guo bu”—through its own direct-to-consumer channels.

In 2025, China expanded the scope of its subsidy initiative from traditional home appliances to include consumer electronics such as smartphones and other 3C digital products. Earlier this year, Apple devices began participating in the program through third-party retailers and e-commerce platforms.
