AsianFin -- The Trump administration is weighing a significant expansion of its travel ban policy, according to a newly surfaced State Department memo.
The proposed move would impose full or partial travel restrictions on 36 countries, 25 of which are in Africa, including key U.S. partners such as Egypt, Djibouti, and Nigeria.
The development has drawn sharp backlash across the United States. On the same day the memo was revealed, over 5 million people took to the streets in roughly 2,000 protest events nationwide, rallying under the banner “No Kings”—a direct rebuke of what many see as Trump’s increasing use of executive powers to push forward controversial policies. The administration’s hardline stance on immigration has emerged as a central flashpoint for demonstrators.
