AsianFin -- Disney and NBCUniversal have filed a lawsuit against AI image-generation platform Midjourney, marking Hollywood’s first major legal offensive in the growing battle over artificial intelligence and copyright.
Filed Wednesday in a Los Angeles federal court, the suit accuses Midjourney of using unauthorized copies of protected content — including characters from Star Wars, Minions, and Toy Story — to train its AI models.
The complaint alleges that Midjourney accessed infringing libraries containing copyrighted works and enabled users to generate images featuring characters like Darth Vader, Buzz Lightyear, and Spider-Man, all without permission.
