AsianFin -- China, Mexico, the European Union, Japan, Canada, along with numerous international airlines and aerospace companies, have called on the Trump administration to abandon proposed national security tariffs on imported commercial aircraft and parts, according to filings released Tuesday by the U.S. Commerce Department.
The appeal reflects widespread concern that the tariffs could disrupt global aerospace supply chains and increase costs for airlines and manufacturers alike.
In a separate filing, U.S. aerospace giant Boeing highlighted a recent trade agreement with the United Kingdom, finalized in May, which preserves duty-free treatment for aircraft and related components. Boeing urged the U.S. government to adopt a similar approach in future trade deals.
“The United States should ensure duty-free treatment for commercial aircraft and their parts in any negotiated trade agreement,” the company said.
