AsianFin — Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei expressed strong confidence in China’s ability to lead in artificial intelligence

Ren said that the country possesses key infrastructural advantages critical to AI development, including abundant electricity supply and the world’s most advanced communications network.

Speaking at a recent forum at Huawei’s Shenzhen headquarters, Ren emphasized that AI will be a transformative technology evolving over decades or even centuries. He noted that China’s robust power generation capabilities and nationwide grid infrastructure provide a strong foundation for scaling AI applications.

Additionally, the country’s leadership in telecommunications and large-scale computing strategies—such as the “East Data, West Computing” initiative—positions it well for future growth.

Ren also downplayed ongoing concerns over semiconductor access, suggesting that alternative methods like chip stacking and computing clusters can deliver performance comparable to the most advanced chips currently on the market.
