AsianFin -- National Guard troops sent by the Trump administration arrived in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Northern Command.
The 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from the California National Guard deployed approximately 300 soldiers across three separate locations in the greater Los Angeles area.
Tensions quickly escalated as more than 200 protesters clashed with the National Guard during ongoing demonstrations against immigration raids that swept across California over the weekend.
Reporters on the scene witnessed National Guard troops, alongside agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), repeatedly deploying tear gas and smoke grenades in efforts to disperse the crowd.
