AsianFin -- China’s Ministry of Commerce on Thursday called on the United States to abolish its unilateral tariff measures, following a U.S. court ruling that deemed certain Trump tariffs illegal and blocked them from taking effect.
Commenting on the U.S. Court of International Trade’s decision, ministry spokesperson He Yongqian said, “We have noted that the court ruled tariffs imposed over the fentanyl issue and the Trump administration’s worldwide reciprocal tariffs as illegal and prevented them from taking effect. China has always maintained that there are no winners in a trade war and that protectionism leads nowhere.”
He criticized the U.S. approach, saying that the tariffs have failed to resolve America’s own challenges while severely disrupting global trade, harming business operations, and impacting consumers. “It has not only failed to solve its own problems but has also interfered with the international economic and trade order,” He said.
The spokesperson added that the tariff measures have sparked widespread opposition within the United States and urged Washington to heed both domestic and international calls to dismantle the unilateral tariff regime.
