AsianFin -- The Trump administration said Wednesday it would give Harvard University one month to present evidence countering an effort to strip the school of its ability to host international students.
The decision, revealed in a court filing Thursday, marks a shift in tone from the administration’s earlier aggressive approach. It also appears aimed at undermining a legal challenge Harvard filed last week after a judge intervened in the case.
Justice Department attorneys informed a federal judge that the Department of Homeland Security had issued a formal “Notice of Intent to Withdraw” Harvard from the Student and Exchange Visitor Program. The five-page notice outlines several reasons for the potential revocation and gives the university 30 days to respond with sworn statements or other supporting evidence to rebut the allegations.
Lawyers for both sides are expected in court Thursday morning.
