AsianFin -- China kicked off the world’s first humanoid robot fighting competition on Sunday, marking a milestone in the integration of artificial intelligence into combat sports.

The China Media Group (CMG) World Robot Competition – Mecha Fighting Series debuted in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, featuring livestreamed bouts between advanced robots developed by domestic firms including Unitree Robotics.

The event, hailed as a global first, showcased a range of AI-powered humanoid robots equipped with homegrown technologies. According to CMG, the competition underscores China’s growing prowess in robotics and the potential of intelligent machines to enter more dynamic, physically demanding fields like sports.

The tournament features both demonstration and competitive segments, where humanoid robots perform choreographed combat moves and engage in real-time, human-controlled fighting scenarios.

Unitree Robotics, a leading player in China’s humanoid robot sector and a partner of the event, presented solo and group boxing exhibitions, highlighting the robots’ mobility, agility, and coordination. The exhibition not only entertained audiences but also served as a testament to the progress Chinese companies are making in robotics innovation.

The competition signals China's ambition to lead the global push in AI-robot integration and commercial application, especially in areas that blend technology with entertainment and performance.
